Call for Nominations – 8th Belize Public Service Awards

The Government of Belize takes pride in promoting, recognizing and rewarding the
outstanding achievements and contributions of exemplary public officers and government agencies. In this regard, the Ministry of the Public Service is now accepting nominations for the 8th Belize Public Service Awards in the following categories:

Outstanding Public Officer of the Year:
Category 1: Junior Officer (Officers on pay scales 1-8)
Category 2: Senior Officer/Middle Manager (Officers on pay scale 9-19)
Category 3: Senior Manager (Officers on pay scale 20 and above)

Outstanding Government Agency of the Year:
Ministry / Department / Unit

COMMONWEALTH SHOLARSHIPS TENABLE IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO 2013

This serves to inform that the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is
offering scholarships under the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan, and
nominations are invited from suitable qualified candidates wishing to pursue post
graduate programmes in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago tenable at the University of
the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago or the University of Trinidad and
Tobago, commencing in September, 2013.

COMMONWEALTH SHOLARSHIPS TENABLE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM - 2013

This serves to inform that nominations are invited from suitable qualified candidates wishing to pursue post-graduate programmes in the United Kingdom commencing in October 2013. The award is being offered in either of the following categories:

• one (1) year taught Master’s course or equivalent degrees;

• six (6) months of enhancing clinical skills in medicine or dentistry;

• doctoral degrees, of up to three (3) years duration, (candidates wishing to undertake extensive periods of field work locally may also be considered);

• one (1) year research on a split-site basis, towards a PhD registered at a local

University.

Training Workshop – Preparing For Retirement

The Ministry of the Public Service, Governance Improvement, Elections & Boundaries
and Sports, with the technical assistance of the Governance and Institutional
Development Division (GIDD) of the Commonwealth Secretariat is organizing a training
workshop, “Preparing for Retirement”. This programme will be conducted during the
period 28th February to 1st March 2011, at the Best Western, Belize Biltmore Plaza,
commencing at 8:30 am daily.

RECOGNITION CEREMONY FOR SECRETARY I AND II

In April of this year, selected Secretary Is and IIs were allowed to pursue the Certificate in Secretarial Studies and the Certificate in Advanced Secretarial Studies at the St. John’s College, Belize City. As you know the training programme is in keeping with Circular No. 9 of 2009.

On Friday, 17^th December, 2010, St. John’s College – Institute for Workforce and Economic Development and the Ministry of the Public Service will be holding a “Recognition Ceremony” for Secretaries, who were successful in the respective programmes. The ceremony will be at 9:00a.m. at the Fordyce Memorial Chapel, Landivar Campus, Princess Margaret Drive, Belize City.

Through this medium we are hereby informing you about the “Recognition Ceremony” and that the below listed Secretaries will be out of office for that day.

Change of Management Workshop

The Ministry of Public Service, Governance Improvement and Elections & Boundaries in collaboration with the Governance & Institutional Development Division (GIDD) of the Commonwealth Secretariat, held a three day training on Change Management at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel during the period March 15th – 17th 2010. The objective of the workshop was to enhance and expose senior and middle managers in the public sector to prevailing human resource development interventions, which will assist them in developing skills to implement measures to strengthen organizational leadership and promote innovation through the adoption of modern management practices. The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Joan Imhoff-Nwasike, regional Advisor for the Caribbean Region of GIDD, Commonwealth Secretariat and consultant, Ms. Jean Kennedy-Carmichael.

The workshop examined enabling objectives, organizational development and components for successful change as well as the role of participants as the Change Agent. The entire workshop entailed the involvement of participants in group activities throughout the Ministry Participants ranged from Heads of Departments to Human Resource Personnel in various Ministries. Certificates of attendance were awarded to all participants at the conclusion of the workshop.

ICT and E-Government Task Force
